Article about the band Published in the
newspaper Atlanta Latino

Of guitars, lyrics and rock
By Ana Catalina Varela

Journalist and famed author of the book "Prince of Tides", Pat Conroy said that without music life is a journey through a desert. He couldn't be more right and with fresh and unique musical proposals like those of local rock bands "Fugatar" and "Sinopsis". The music world in Atlanta is becoming more lively everyday with their incredible talent and poetic lyrics.

MUSICAL POETRY
This band was formed in 2004 after Chilean born poet/painter/musician, Felipe Barral-Momberg composed several songs and started looking for other musicians that were as passionate about the art as he is. The end result was "Fugatar", made up of musicians from different countries and different traditions, giving the band an international flair. Barral-Momberg is the lead singer, Carlos Martinez from Puerto Rico is the drummer, Kim Gerlach, from the U.S. plays the bass and Jorge Lopez from Venezuela, is the lead guitarist. "In synthesis, Fugatar is a concept. A concert that starts with the combination of "fuga" (escape) and "atar" (to tie), denoting the condition of our existence that ties us to our lives from which we sometimes want to flee, but we are unable to. That is the defining spirit of "Fugatar" and that is what we give our audience, a unique experience brought to life through our music, our lyrics and the art that surrounds us", highlighted Barral-Momberg. The type of music that the band plays falls into what is catalogued today as "modern rock", but it goes beyond that. In some ways it’s a "spoken rock", a mix of modern rock music and the world of the spoken word. This diverse band's music is not only poetry but also an expression of passion, art, music and impressive talent and drive.

THE CITY'S MUSIC SCENE
Atlanta is a city that is becoming more and more important in the U.S.' s music scene and for "Fugatar" what plays in their favor is the fact that since all members come from different countries they can incorporate a musical myriad in order to please a diverse audience.
